Welcome to our first installment of our Back to School education blog series. With summer coming to an end and the fall semester beginning nationwide, campuses will see an influx of packages and mail for students housed on campus. The beginning of the semester means students moving in and with the prevalence of online ordering, package volumes are higher than ever. SqBx can help streamline package storage and retrieval of student packages.

SqBx-Blog1TIP #1 Storing Packages

Many campuses store student packages on shelves and in bins until the student arrives to pick them up. Typically, these packages are organized by last name or by student mailbox number. SqBx recommends creating barcode storage location labels. This helps to save time storing packages, maximize storage space, and retrieve packages quickly and easily. The storage area is set up in small sections, such as Shelf A Row 1. Sections can be labeled with your preferred area name and affiliated barcode.

SqBx-Blog-EducationA receiving agent on campus can quickly put packages away based on available space instead of sorting packages by last name or box number and then put away. Simply scan the barcode storage location and scan all packages being put away in that location. Scan the next available location and put more packages away. This saves considerable time and maximizes available storage space.

Campuses often find themselves in a sea of packages at the beginning of the semester. Normal storage areas overflow to makeshift storage locations such as the floor and hallways. SqBx can accommodate this as well. Simply barcode any additional areas, floor space, bins, and so on. When a student comes to retrieve their package, a team member can swipe, scan, or type in the student name on a SqBx mobile device or workstation. This brings up a list of all packages ready for pick up as well as their locations, making it easy to quickly locate and retrieve student items – including ones that have not yet been stored. You will know where each package is for the student in your mail center.
